Dyer’s Do Lanzarote.

Janine and I generally have a holiday to the Canaries in the early spring to shorten the winter. This year was a family holiday so we took our daughter Julie; partner Dave and granddaughters Emily and Chloe.

Janine and I managed a few dives, some new experiences for her, visiting the New Wrecks and a deep dive off the house reef. I also took Dave and Julie on a couple of try dives, which they thoroughly enjoyed and now have a burning desire to become qualified divers so they too can visit Lanzarote again and explore the underwater world. The two granddaughters took to snorkelling like ducks to water, they snorkelled over us in the bay as we were going out on our dives and saw loads of fish at eye level as they were fed by us.

I can imagine this diving game is going to cost us some money in the years to come! We dived with Safari Diving at Playa Chica, Puerto del Carmen, great set up great people lovely dives nice safe little beach and bay, what more can you ask? They cater for all levels of recreational diving. http://www.safaridiving.com/

Red Hermit Crab

I love it here, this is the tenth time I’ve been diving here and I never tire of it. We saw plenty of life including eagle and sting rays, angel shark, cuttlefish, seahorses, barracuda, bonito, jacks, garden eels, arrow head crabs and a red hermit crab, several different nudibrancs and a poser of a grouper that comes out to meet you at about 20m, the locals call it Felix. Plus an array of colourful reef fish.

Felix

The water was 19C, ok for a 5mm wetsuit, when we visit in autumn a 3mm wetsuit is warm enough. The visibility was around 15 to 20 m though we have had better viz on previous occasions.  Not a full blown dive holiday, this place allows for family and diving to be mixed. You can dive when you like from the shore or dive from the boat every afternoon, the flexibility helps when you are mixing diving with a family holiday.

Roll on next time!
