SAA clubs teach new members themselves. The SAA lays down a set of guidelines and standards, which we follow in training and certifying members. Many people who join us from other organisations may have varying styles of tuition but as long as their training is in line with our standards their programme will be accepted by the SAA.

All diving qualifications are at the discretion of the Diving Officer. This means that the Diving Officer has some flexibility in line with SAA guidlines when crossing over divers who have received training with other organisations. The Diving Officer will take into account previous qualifications, experience and ability. Any individual crossing over may be sure of a positive reception and will be provided with all the support they require to make the transition. An additional benefit of joining the SAA is that it offers International recognition for members, both with SAA qualifications and with CMAS qualifications. The SAA are the only CMAS qualification issuing authority in the UK.

Blue Lagoon - 2011

Aim, for Val Darren Mick and Adrian to complete their elementary skills.  The day was calm dry sunny and warm for the time of year and the lagoon was clear 8m viz with hardly a ripple.  After registering briefing and kitting up we entered the water at the beach finned to the 3m platform where the trainees did their required skills of removing the mask 3 times the taking out and replacing their demand valves 3 times, all were done successfully so we carried on to the 6m platform to the big gun and back to the beach.

At this point all the trainees, having already passed their theory exams became qualified divers congratulations one and all.   For their first dive towards the open water qualification we went to the far side of the lake. A giant stride entry from one of the deep water platforms and down to the little boat called Freddie and a fin around that, then a leisurely swim back to the steps.

I think everyone enjoyed themselves it was a lovely day for diving.
