Blue Lagoon - 3rd July

4 club members decided to have an ad-hoc training day at the Blue Lagoon (BL) dive site.  Mark, Nigel, Len and Steve turned up for a bit of Club Diver training for Steve with Mark, Nigel wanted to try out and get the feel for using a pony setup, and Len was trying out his twinset after pool training last week.

We all arrived ready to go, and spent the next hour having a real good catch up and natter, after all we had not seen each other for for 2 days!!!!  Also one major point we noticed was that Scuba (BL site dog) had been to the clippers, he looked about 5 years younger, mind you they had not got anywhere near his nether regions!!

After signing in, kitting up and compleiting the SAA paperwork, we headed in, a couple of weight checks with the new gear and we were off.  There was the usual to see in the Lagoon, some fish were about and the water temperature was up to 20 degrees.

We finished off our dives and went for a brew in the canteen, got some dive logs updated and discussed potential trips for next year.  With this facility local to us all it is a good place to hone up skills and drills.

Beadnell - 10th July - Report by Mark Dyer

We had a good day at Beadnell on Saturday Julie, Dave, sleepy Steve and I dived, Janine and Kay were our shore cover helped by Chloe Emily and Georgia

The purpose of the day was to let Julie and Dave have a taste of the sea as it was their first time, also Steve and Family fancied a day out.

The dives went well both Julie and Dave enjoyed themselves, so did Steve and I come to that. The dives were very steady as this place is lovely and sheltered, the max depth was only 6m but it is amazing the amount of life there is so close to shore.

We saw lots of crabs, shore, edible, velvet swimming and hermit, a surprising number of sizeable lobsters, small flatties, wrasse, conger eel and whiting.

The kids enjoyed themselves as well, playing on the beach and in the rock pools and in the canoe (surface cover) they even went in for a swim in the afternoon.

This really is a fantastic place for a shore dive the best thing is that absolute novices can enjoy themselves in safety surrounded by marine life, somehow I don’t think this will be the last trip here.
